CPE (Customer Terminal) Server Assignment Process

Inside the Multipoint Studies dialog box is an option named “Study Results based on:” This option determines how servers are assigned to CPE’s for the active studies. The following table shows how this operates:

Study Results based on: “Assigned Server”
CPE “assigned server ID” CPE server assignment
—————————– —————————

“use strongest server” = strongest server at CPE location
“no server” = CPE not included in study
selected server from list = selected server

Study Results based on: “Strongest Server”
CPE “assigned server ID” CPE server assignment
—————————- —————————-
“use strongest server” = strongest server at CPE location
“no server” = strongest server at CPE location
selected server from list = strongest server at CPE location

In addition, there are two other limits on server selection that are set in the Multipoint Study details dialog box:

  1. The “Limit MLS to Approx. Sector Range” option. The strongest (most likely) server (MLS) determination will be affected by the distance between a server and a CPE. The “Approx. Sector Range” value is found in the Transmitter/Base/Hub Site Details -> Study Sector/Sector range… dialog box.
  2. The “Study level display threshold” value. If the signal from sector at the CPE is below this value that sector is not considered as a server.
